As the last vampire from his island home, Maximillian (Eddie Murphy) comes to Brooklyn to find a mate. His ship arrives in the Brooklyn harbor with a dead crew drawing the immediate attention of the NYPD. One detective, Rita Veder (Angela Bassett) falls from the deck into the cargo hold where Maximillian is hiding and he knows that she is the one he is looking for, half-human and half-vampire. Rita gives chase to the suspect she sees in the hold, but Max shapeshifts and all anyone sees is wolf leaping to the dock. Max saves Julius Jones (Kadeem Hardison) from a couple of thugs and pronounces that Julius will assist him while he is in Brooklyn in finding Rita. Getting Rita's attention, however, proves to be difficult as her partner, Justice (Allen Payne), has a romantic interest in her as well. Ultimately, Max gets her attention and bites her on the neck revealing who she truly is. Justice, however, is not willing to give up that easily on the woman he loves-even if she is a vampire.
