Jeff Taylor (Kurt Russell) and his wife Amy (Kathleen Quinlan) are traveling cross-country in a new car. They are in the middle of the Southwestern desert when their car breaks down. Amy hitches a ride to a local diner while Jeff stays with the car waiting for a tow. When he finally makes it to the diner, his wife is no where to be found and the people there claim they never saw her. The trucker who took his wife, Warren “Red” Barr (J. T. Walsh), claims to have never met Jeff or Amy. Now Jeff is scrambling to find his kidnapped wife and he doesn’t know who he can trust.
