Rodeo star Lane Frost (Luke Perry) dedicates his entire life to compete in one of the most dangerous rodeo sports: bareback bull riding where he must remain on the bull while it wildly bucks for a minimum eight seconds. A charismatic cowboy who is friendly to fans, he meets professional barrell racer Kellie Kyle (Cynthia Geary) and they marry. He eventually becomes the 1987 PRCA Bull Riding World Champion. Thinking this would be enough Kellie hopes for the couple to settle down and live a quiet life as ranchers. But Lane refuses to give up the rodeo life. Because bull riding and hanging out with his cowboy friends takes priority, his marriage begins to fall apart. Lane does not quit rodeo life even then. Lane is determined to face his greatest challenge: an untamed bull named Red Rock that no one has been able to ride for eight seconds.
