A young member of the armed forces during war time in 1939, Captain Daniel McCormick (Mel Gibson) is a test subject used in a cryogenics experiment where he is frozen. Almost 60 years later, a young boy (Elijah Wood) and his friends find McCormick's frozen body and accidentally bring it back to life. The former pilot must adapt to life in the modern world, all while the young boy attempts to hide him from his mother (Jamie Lee Curtis) in his treehouse. McCormick has not forgotten his past, however, and desperately attempts to search for his once young lover from 1939 (Isabel Glasser) as his health rapidly deteriorates.
