When Kevin McAllister’s (Macaulay Culkin) family accidentally leaves him behind in their rush to leave for the Christmas holidays, chaos ensues in the McAllister household. The McAllister family is on the way to Paris, France and in the rush do not realize that Kevin is no where to be found. Instead of panicking, Kevin decides to enjoy his vacation from his wacky extended family by doing all of the things his parents would forbid, like eating ice cream whenever he wanted. The plucky 8-year-old finds a way to make it on his own, until two dimwitted criminals, Harry and Marv (Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern), attempt to burglarize the family’s home. However, at every turn they are foiled by Kevin’s series of ingenious traps.
