     Welcome to our family recipes

 

This is my family online cook book if you stumble upon it help yourself. We  have lots of delicious snacks & recipes. If you would like to email some of your great recipes feel free to do so.

Date Squares

 

4 cups packed, chopped, pitted dates

2 cups water

2 ½ cups all purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 ½  cups margarine

2 ½ cups rolled oats

1 ½ lightly packed brown sugar

 

 

Turn stove on medium heat. Put dates and water in a

small saucepan. Heat to a boiling. Then turn heat to low.

Simmer uncovered, Until mixture is as thick as jam. This

will take about 10 minutes.

 

Put flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large

bowl. Use a pastry blender or two knives to cut in

margarine. Keep cutting until mixture is crumbly. Stir in

oats and sugar.

 

Turn on oven to 350 F . Lightly grease an 8 X 8 X 2 inch

( 2 L ) baking pan.

 

Press half the crumb mixture into the bottom of the pan.

Spread date mixture evenly over crumb mixture. Sprinkle

remaining crumbs over top. Press top crumbs lightly into

the date mixture.

 

Bake in oven about 25 minutes until lightly browned.

 

Cool in pan.
